Why do we need process control? To what extent should the data be analyzed? Will my operation really gain anything from an automated SPC application? These questions arise in an operations manager’s mind whenever the topic of an automated SPC system comes up for discussion. Let us try and answer these questions and help our operation manager in distress. The first question seems a little irrelevant to me, because I am ardent believer in the saying, ‘what can be measured can be Managed.’ Without an SPC system it would be very difficult to separate assignable causes and non assignable causes in quality and process related events that occur. This absence of process data can cripple the entire operation, so the need of an SPC system is not a question for me; I think an SPC application can find its way in any kind of operation.
The second question is a very good question, the extent of data analysis? Well, there is no point digging for more data if you have a process under control and your process metrics are clearly known, understood and monitored by your current SPC application, this means that your process knowledge is sufficient. But if the process metrics are not well known or it is a new process then an SPC application that can measure all relevant process metrics is a good way to start. Having an SPC application not only facilitates better process control but also adds to your process knowledge and helps you get a much better information pool about the process. This in turn facilitates process improvement and leads to operational excellence in due course of time. Thus the data that needs to be analyzed completely depends on the type of process and the present knowledge that you possess about the process.
The third question asks us about the relevance of an automated SPC application, I believe that an automated SPC system has benefits that are multi faceted. To begin with an automated SPC saves precious time that is spent on calculating relevant parameters manually, they are more accurate and human error is eliminated to a large extent and last but certainly not the least, an automated SPC solution allows you to take real-time decisions. This makes an automated SPC application a much more preferred option for your operation. However, when choosing a partner for such an important you need to tread very carefully. You need experts to apply an SPC application and the future performance of your process is dependent on it.

For Organizations that manufacture any kind of product, the Factory is the heart of that Organization. Factories are places where a product or a product sub-assembly is manufactured or assembled. It is in these factories that raw materials become value added products that provide the desired utility to the end user. Information that flows to and from the factories is crucial and plays a massive role in the operational efficiency and effectiveness. Traditionally solutions have been developed to help functions like Finance, Purchase, HR and Marketing. Factories and Operations, have had limited solutions aimed specifically to improve the information processing and information flow, for them. I2DS has realized this evident gap and has developed a unique solution called FIS or Factory Information System. Our FIS system is truly at the forefront of technological advancements in the manufacturing space. It enables rapid data communication from the production floor and provides the organization with a real-time status on equipment status, WIP profile, and other factory metrics. We at I2DS realize the importance of process related information and how the flow of this information can affect the bottom line of your organization. Our FIS gives management a complete picture of what is happening on their Factory Floor, this helps better and faster decision making, that in turn increases organizational flexibility and aids continuous improvement. Factory Information Systems help you better utilize your equipment, make better tactical plans, improve cycle time, locate and relieve bottlenecks and achieve your true capacity. FIS system can provide above mentioned functionalities because it makes all the important metrics available for analysis and subsequent decision making in real-time. FIS Technology if used effectively can change the way your factory operates, let I2DS be your automation partner and reach the pinnacle of efficiency and profit optimization. In a typical production environment a lot of things can go wrong unless properly monitored and controlled. There can be thousands of mistakes that can be committed on a daily basis before, during and after production. Each Lot that is produced is of some value to the factory and any excursion during production process is a definite financial loss. It is imperative to be proactive in checking all production requirements are appropriately filled even before the material leaves the Ware-house. Being reactive will only lead to analysis of the loss that has already occurred rather than preventing it. Today most Factories are employing standard ERP systems that give material traceability to and from the warehouse, but what if the excursion occurs during production or when the material has already gone through the first stage of processing? Most systems lack the capability of tracking material through the production line; this may lead to a major loss in material and production time. There is an evident need for a solution that can help track material throughout the production line and I2DS has just the solution for this problem. We have developed a unique Inventory Management Solution, which allows you to track your material even after it leaves the Ware-house. Our system gives you the ability to track the exact location of material, anywhere and everywhere in the production line, right up to the finished goods stage. Our system is capable of collaborating with your existing ERP system to give you better control and complete traceability for your material. Our system is in-line with JIT theory and helps you monitor the inventory at each and every step of production and insures you not only detect but prevent any excursion that might happen. Our system allows you to detect excursions faster and thereby helps you to prevent losses which might have otherwise occurred. So if you are interested in cutting your losses and improve traceability of your material, contact us right now and get a free demo of our path breaking solutions, e-mail us at info@i2ds.com

Statistical Process Control or SPC is one of the most reliable methods to measure and control Quality in a manufacturing environment. TQM advocates the use of SPC rather than purely judgment based decisions, especially to determine variations in Quality and Equipment performance. It enables accurate process control and ensures quality parameters are achieved. SPC can be applied universally to any process where the required output can be measured. Some key tools used in SPC include control charts; a focus on continuous improvement; and the design of experiments. In simpler words SPC is a tool for Quality control that aims to achieve following objectives 1) Objective analysis of any variation 2) Increasing Productivity 3) Early detection of quality and performance related issues. If applied properly SPC can provide your Organization the competitive edge it requires. Most MES systems lack the effective implementation of SPC, but we at I2DS realize the value a good SPC tool in your MES system can add to your operations. Our SPC solution is integrated in our MES system and it allows the above mentioned functionalities in real time. This makes your control function extremely powerful as you can monitor SPC data in real time and make decisions simultaneously, that too without having to use any other system/tool for analysis. Our SPC might appear magical to a common man but it’s a powerful tool for a manager who deals with issues like quality and cost of production. Our SPC solution empowers you with tools such as CpK Trends, Real-Time Data, Trends feedback, Tool Shutdown, SMS Text Capabilities, E-mail alerts and the functionality our SPC brings does not end here. I2DS’ SPC has the capability to integrate and compare the process data from multiple factories of the Organization, providing you a comprehensive analysis tool. Our SPC is the perfect Quality and Equipment ‘Doctor’, because it helps you diagnose and cure every issue pertaining to them. The reports that our SPC generates helps you get a 360 degree view of the entire operation and this helps you make more accurate and profitable decisions.
